For candidates
Your background check, explained
If an employer has asked ClearBGV to verify your details, this page tells you what happens, what we will and will not look at, and what to do if something is wrong.
Why you were contacted
A company you have applied to — or already joined — has engaged ClearBGV to confirm the details on your application. We only act on their instructions, and only after you have given consent.
We are not the employer. We do not make the hiring decision. Our job is to confirm facts accurately and hand the result back to whoever asked for it.
What we verify
- Employment — dates, designation, and exit details, confirmed with the HR of record
- Education — degrees and certifications, confirmed with the institution or registrar
- Address — current or permanent address, digitally or by a field visit
- Identity — Aadhaar, PAN, passport, driving licence or voter ID, with your consent
- Criminal and court records — where the employer has asked for it and law permits
- References — structured conversations with managers you have named
What we will never do
- Ask you for money. ClearBGV never charges candidates, at any stage, for anything.
- Access your social media, bank accounts, medical records or private messages
- Run a check you have not consented to
- Contact your current employer without your explicit permission
- Share your report with anyone other than the employer who requested it
How long it takes
Most checks resolve within 48 hours of receiving complete documentation. Criminal and court record searches typically take longer — four to five working days — because they depend on jurisdictional records.
The single biggest cause of delay is incomplete documentation. If we ask for a document, sending it the same day usually saves several days at the end.
If something in your report is wrong
You have the right to see what was reported about you and to dispute anything inaccurate. Write to bgv_request@clearbgv.com with your name, the employer, and the specific finding you are disputing.
We acknowledge disputes within 72 hours. If a finding turns out to be incorrect, we correct it and issue an amended report to the employer at no cost to you.
Your rights over your data
Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 you may ask what personal data we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, and withdraw your consent. Withdrawing consent stops further processing, though it may mean the employer cannot complete their verification.
